Dear Altadena Neighbors,
When the winds came and the fires burned our community to the ground this past January, we experienced a disaster on a scale we never could have imagined.
Now, we are experiencing a second disaster: families are not getting the financial resources they need to stay on their land in Altadena and rebuild. We are witnessing the historic Black community of West Altadena being pushed out. Many of us are still paying mortgage payments on houses that are no longer standing. Many of us don’t have insurance or the insurance isn’t paying. Some of us are even facing foreclosure. So many of us are still figuring out where the money to rebuild is going to come, or how to hang on in the interim - debating whether we can hold out until we get our settlement money from Southern California Edison.
Gov. Newsom passed AB 238 in September, offering up to a year of mortgage forbearance — but it’s not enough. It relies on homeowners to opt in, and excludes many elderly and displaced residents. With the outstanding cases against SoCal Edison not expected to resolve until 2027, that’s too little, too late.
That's why we are asking Gov. Newsom to Freeze All Fire-Related Foreclosures in Altadena — Keep Altadena Families On Their Land!
Please sign and share the petition here ASAP - we need to reach 1000 signatures this week!
STOP THE FORECLOSURES PETITION
This petition calls for a blanket moratorium on all mortgage payments, interest, and foreclosures until survivors receive the justice and compensation they are owed.
Stop the second disaster — protect Altadena families now!

The Vision of My Tribe Rise is to create opportunities for Peace through Positive Energy, fundamental relationships and shared social justice values.
We center working-class Black and Brown families in the beautiful future of Altadena
MY TRIBE RISE was founded in 2019 to take the stigma out of gangs and to educate people about the positive changes that are possible when people come together to end violence and meet the needs of Black and Brown communities. Born and raised in West Altadena, founders Heavenly Hughes and Victor Hodgson quickly expanded the mission of MY TRIBE RISE to include projects that blend mutual aid (providing food, clothing, healthcare, and housing assistance) with efforts to end racial profiling, police and community violence, and other inequalities that impact communities of color in Altadena/Pasadena. MY TRIBE RISE is the only Black-led, boots-on-the-ground mutual aid organization in Altadena. In all of our work, we emphasize peace and unity in our community.
